Artist’s Statement:
The first time I picked up a crayon, I knew that I was fascinated by color and texture. I was 4 years old. Throughout the years that fascination is still there.
I have been making handmade paper for over 40 years. I am self-taught and it has been a wonderful journey. Handmade paper is a perfect medium to experiment with all kinds of different textures. I love to incorporate fabric, threads, old jewelry, other paper, paint, drawings, found objects and polymer clay into the paper.
I don't consider myself a great drawer. But I do consider my drawings to be honest. When I look at my "Passionate Primitives" I feel that my drawings represent who I am.
For the last 8 years I have been making polymer clay jewelry. Like my handmade paper I use lots of inclusions in the clay. I love to experiment using alcohol ink, paint, and pens to achieve different results.
Every day I am inspired. It could be the color of the sky, something that someone said, a person's face, a hug, music or other art. I am always thinking about my art and looking at all the color and texture around me. When I begin a piece of paper or jewelry I have a rough idea of what I want to achieve but as I am working there is a voice that leads me to the finish and if what I see is what my heart feels than it is done. I may not always know what it means but I know it is right. Find me on Pinterest at:
